LGC
Potters Gate C of E Primary School and St Andrew’s C of E Infant School
LOCAL GOVERNING COMMITTEE (LGC)
Potters Gate CE Primary School and St Andrew’s CE Infant School are part of the Good Shepherd Trust (GST). The GST is a multi-academy trust within the Diocese of Guildford. More information about the GST can be found here.
The Trust has given the Local Governing Committee (LGC) a scheme of delegation which shows what the LGC is responsible for.
The members of the LGC, the Headteacher and staff work together constantly to improve the quality of the education we provide to our children and to promote Christian values in all aspects of school life at both Potters Gate and St Andrew’s.
Declarations of interest are declared and reviewed at the LGC, the Curriculum & Learning Committee and the Resources Committee meetings and are recorded in the minutes.
What does an LGC and the other committees do?
The LGC is a committee of the Good Shepherd Trust and has delegated responsibility for:
- Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction (LGC);
- Holding executive leaders to account for the educational performance of the organisation and its pupils, and the performance management of staff (Children & Learning committee);
- Overseeing the financial performance of the schools and making sure the money is well spent (Resources Committee);
- Upholding the Christian distinctiveness of the school (Faith Team).
How often are meetings held?
LGC, Resources and Children & Learning meetings are held approximately twice a term. Part 1 (non-confidential) minutes of these meetings are public documents and can be requested from the school office.
What are the different types of membership?
- Ex officio members: the Principal and the Incumbent;
- Foundation members: representatives nominated by the Church (4-year term);
- Parent members: elected by parents of registered pupils at the academy and must be a parent of a pupil at the academy at the time of the election (4-year term);
- Staff member: 1 member of the school staff from each school appointed as a representative of the staff (4-year term);
- Co-opted member: having a particular skill set and experience for a specific role within the LGC (1-year term);
- General member (4-year term).
I’m interested in joining the LGC, what should I do?
Firstly, thank you! If you would like to be considered to be appointed to the LGC you should contact the Chair (chair@potters-gate.surrey.sch.uk) for an informal chat about where your strengths and experience might be best used.
Information about the LGC for both schools can be found below.
